Miksi laatat putoavat seinistä?

There are many ways to beautify your home in this 21st century. And, to be honest, tiles are one of the best ways to do that. However, there are some times that you notice that your tiles fall off the walls. This situation, no doubt, disfigures the wall. Fixing is something you must do, but, before then, you should know the reasons why the tiles fall off.

Reasons for Tiles Fall off  Walls

Weak Bonding Strength:

A weak bonding strength tile adhesive may result in delamination and hollow drum, especially when it used for large tiles. As we know, using an effective cellulose ether, like hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC), can significantly improve the bonding strength of tile adhesive. Our MelaColl™ HPMC provides the following features in tile adhesive applications:

  • Parannettu notkeuden kestävyys
  • Parempi työstettävyys
  • Parempi tarttuvuus
  • Parannettu lämmön- ja jäätymis-sulamiskestävyys
  • Parannettu vedenpidätyskyky

Absorption of Water By Tiles:

Generally, tiles have low and high water absorption rate. Where the water absorption of your tiles is high, the tiles are prone to easy expansion and cracking. When tiles begin to crack, they begin to fall off one after the other. It is better you determine this before you begin to install your tiles.

Quality of Tiles:

The tiles’ quality on your wall may be the reason for your tiles falling off. When you fix tiles whose grouting was hastily done, or whose grout was not waterproof, you may face the problem of tiles falling off. The tiles that do not have adequate grout will become loose over time and give room for water seeping between the tiles and the wall. Tiles of this sort can only stay on the wall for some time. After a while, they begin to fall off one after the other.

Incorrect Construction:

The reason might that the method of constructing the tiles was wrong. Generally, tiles are constructed using the cement-mortar pasting for walls with high-water infiltration, and the thin-pasting method for walls with low water infiltration. If the thin-pasting method was used to fix your tiles to the wall with high water infiltration, it might cause the tiles to fall off.

Your tiles might also be falling off because of the failure of the construction worker to adequately soak or not soak the tiles at all. Where this occurs, the tiles can absorb the mortar moisture and cause a reduction in the adhesive strength of the mortar. If the tiles are over-soaked, the moisture between the mortar and the tiles will get too much. After a while, the tiles will begin to fall off, because too much moisture in-between has reduced the binding strength.

Tiles falling off is something people don’t expect. Suitable tile adhesive additive would help you keep your tiles in place, using good tiles and good construction are also indispensable. Hope those would help to solve your tile-off problem. MelaColl team is always ready to solve your problem, just CONTACT US now to see what we can do for you!
