Redispersible polymer powder (RDP) is made of polymer emulsion by the process of spray-drying. RDP in mortar can be mixed with water. After that, the polymer emulsion is emulsified and dispersed and becomes more stable. When the RDP is emulsified and dispersed in water, it will form a polymer film after the water evaporates, which is able to improve the various performance of the mortar. Different RDP affects the characteristics of dry mortars differently.
1.Functions of RDP in mortar
1.1 Improve the impact resistance, durability and abrasion resistance of mortar
The polymer powder particles can fill the mortar cavity, which enables the increasing of mortar density and improves the wear resistance of mortar. The mortar will be relaxed by an external force to avoid being destroyed. The polymer film can exist in the mortar system permanently.
1.2 Improve mortar construction and workability
There is a lubricating effect between the polymer powder particles in the mortar, which can make the mortar components flow separately, and the polymer powder has an inducing effect on air so that using RDP in mortar the mortar can be compressed to improve the construction and workability.
1.3 Improve the bonding strength and cohesion of mortar
As an organic binder, the RDP in mortar has high tensile strength and bonding strength on different substrates after forming a polymer film in the mortar. RDP in mortar plays an important role in the adhesion ability of mortar and organic materials or smooth surface substrates. The film-forming polymer powder is distributed in the entire mortar system as a reinforcing material to enhance the cohesion of the mortar.
1.4 Improve the weather resistance and freeze-thaw resistance, and prevent the mortar from cracking
RDP is a thermoplastic resin with good flexibility. RDP in mortar enables the mortar to adapt to the changes of external cold and hot environments, and can prevent the mortar from cracking due to temperature changes effectively.
1.5 Improve the hydrophobicity of the mortar and reduce the water absorption
The RDP in mortar can form films on the mortar cavity and surface, the film will not disperse again in water, which prevents the intrusion of water and improves the impermeability of mortar. Using special hydrophobic RDP in mortar, the mortar will have a better hydrophobicity.

Ensure the water-proofing performance and enhance the adhesion of mortar with the substrates, improve the compressive and flexural strength of the mortar.
5.Self-leveling floor mortars
Ensure the elastic modulus matching ability, bending resistance and crack resistance of the mortar. Improve the wear resistance, bonding strength and cohesion of the mortar.
